Cusco - I took a flight from Lima to Cusco as everyone was telling me the trip by bus was a nightmare. It was a very quick flight, and it wasn't that expensive either.LAN is excessively expensive, so I recommend either www.starperu.com and www.peruvianairlines.pe
I was lucky to be able to spend 5 days in Cusco to rest and adjust to the altitude and visit the city. Then I stayed for another week to work at a Teenage Mother's program (next post coming up).
Amazing views from the air plane |
My first week in Cusco I stayed at the brilliant hostal Ecopackers, http://www.ecopackersperu.com/. The day I arrived it was nice and sunny during the afternoon, quite warm even. But then when the evening arrived, in a matter of minutes, the temperature dropped drastically. I was so freezing cold, I felt like my fingers were going to need amputation!! So I went for dinner and asked for a warm drink, they brought me a delicious Mulled red wine...the best I ever had!
And warming up at the hostal's living room |
Had an early night and the next day I started visiting around town and prepare the tours to go to Machu Picchu and Sacred Valley.

Basically, that's how you create the red colour - by killing a bug which can be found on the cactus below. It's used to colour the wool, but also the red lipstick, and other make-up...yes, thinking twice now!! |

Next Destination: still in Cusco, 1 week volunteering with Kyuki-Do Wasi
